Dr K G Karmakar, MD, NABARD has taken over the chairmanship of Nabcons with effect from 28 August 2006 after Dr Y S P Thorat relinquished the office. Dr. Karmakar holds a Post Graduate degree in Financial Management and doctoral degree in Management from University of Bombay. With over thirty years of professional experience in various banking and financial institutions like Reserve Bank of India, NABARD and State Bank of India, Dr Karmakar has expertise in Agricultural and Rural Credit, Micro Credit, Project Management and Rural Infrastructure Development.


Shri S M Mehta has been appointed as the CEO of Nabcons w.e.f. 03 May 2006. Shri Mehta is an Agriculture Engineer and holds a Masters degree in Management. He has attended a Senior Management Programme at IIM – Ahmedabad and has also done a Diploma course in German language & a Certificate course in French. He has an experience of more than 10 years of Marketing agriculture tractors & implements and 27 years in ARDC & NABARD. He has to his credit Implementation of bilateral projects on watershed (IGWDP), Adivasi Development Projects (KFW, Germany), Transfer of Technology for sustainable development (European Union). He was involved in Policy planning and implementation for strengthening rural credit delivery institutions including planning for credit requirement both at micro and macro level for agriculture and rural development. He has provided support to various training institutions by sharing his expertise and training entrepreneurs setting up projects and agro service centers, preparing & appraising feasibility reports for agricultural projects.


Nabcons aspiring to go global
To expand its business in the developing world, Nabcons has been exploring the avenues of business in African continent.
Nabcons signed the MoU with GTZ-International Services, Germany to further boost the overseas operation and increase its international presence.
Nabcons signed MoU with YES BANK & State Bank of Indore: Nabcons enters into strategic alliance with YES BANK by signing a MoU ON 28th June 2006 to work together in the direction of giving thrust to Agriculture financing. Similarly a MoU was signed with State Bank of Indore making an institutional arrangement for preparation of Detailed Project Reports & Appraisal of the Project Reports submitted by the clients, thus enhancing smooth flow of credit in agriculture & rural development.
Assignments: Nabcons has executed more than 350 assignments by the end of fiscal 2005-06.



Commercial Banks & Nabcons have a handshake to boost agriculture Financing.
Nabcons has signed Memorandum of Understanding with major commercial Banks like Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Central Bank of India and institutions like Small Farmers’ Agri Business Consortium (SFAC) New Delhi. This will further boost the agriculture financing as the expertise of Nabcons/ NABARD would be utilized in Identifying, Formulating, Appraising, Monitoring and Evaluating the projects related to agriculture and rural development.

The National Seminar on Implementation of National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) was organized at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai. Sixty officials from Gol, State Govt, NABARD and NGOs participated in it. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr YSP Thorat, Managing Director, NABARD and Chairman NABCONS and key note address was given by Ms Nita Chowdhury, Joint Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry / Dairying, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. The officials of NABARD made state wise presentation of study findings.


NABCONS has crossed a landmark of contracting more than 200 assignments from wide range of very satisfied domestic and international clients.

Board of Directors of Nabcons was reconstituted including eminent personalities from wide spectra of the country.

Nabcons has prepared a detailed project report for setting up of cold storage for storing vegetables and fruits in the Tsunami affected Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The infrastructure facility so created would help in stabilizing the prices of agri-produce, besides ensuring remunerative prices to the farmers. Nabcons extends its heartfelt sympathies to the kith & kins of the victims of Tsunami.


Planning Commission, Government of India, has awarded the monitoring work of projects under Rashtriya Sam VikasYojana (RSVY) in 147 backward districts of the country for a period of three years. Nabcons is facilitating smooth and quality implementation of the projects under RSVY, which will have far reaching effects in overall development of these backward districts.


Nabcons organized International Visitors programme for very senior level delegates from Ethiopia, including Chairman of a commercial bank and Deputy governor of Central Bank, from 21 to 28 November 2004.


A study visit of an All Women delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Islamic Republic of Iran on micro Finance was organized from 13 to 24 December 2004. The delegations visited different parts of the country to understand various concepts of Wadi, Rural Banking, SHGs etc.


All the five detailed Project Reports prepared by Nabcons for various clients in the states of Tamil Nadu, have been financed by banks in the state. This has resulted in flow of ground level credit of about Rs 7 Crore


The Government of Jharkhand has appointed Nabcons as an official consultant to the state in matters connected with Agriculture and Rural Development.


The assignment for evaluation of National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) awarded by the department of Animal Husbandry/Dairying, Ministry of Agriculture(MOA),Government of India(GOI), covering Andhra Pradesh,Haryana,Madhya Pradesh and Uttaranchal has been successfully completed and the Ministry has found the same to be highly satisfactory. As a sequel, the Ministry has awarded similar assignment covering Chattisgarh,Kerela,Orissa,Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
